Complaint against Dr. Avinash Katara and Dr. Akshay Chitnis from PD Hinduja Hospital, Khar, Mumbai

Brief :

• 1. This is regarding a complaint against Dr. Avinash Katara and Dr. Akshay Chitnis, PD Hinduja Hospital, Khar, who has refused critical hernia surgery to my 70 years old mother with diabetes and chronic kidney issues and who had to be admitted in emergency 2 times in last 15 days due to hernia complications.


• 2. This is inspite of the fact that she has been under his care for last 1 month and he already did one part of the surgical procedure on 26th Feb and has 5 days before refused to do the main hernia surgery which was originally planned on 18th March. We have already spent around INR 5 lacs under his treatment till date and only main surgery was left now.


• 3. He didn’t like the fact that we were trying to reach him regarding my mom’s condition on call for 5 mins on 7th March (2nd time emergency admission of patient) through various channels while he was out for a conference and that we also complained about this to the hospital management.


• 4. When he came back on 10th March while explaining to him about the above issue that don’t we have the right to connect on call for 5 mins to our main doctor if the case is of an emergency? He said he has the same right to say no to the patient and will not do the main hernia surgery which was supposed to happen on 18th March


• 5. We have filed official complaint with Medical Superintendent PD Hinduja hospital, Khar, Maharashtra Medical Council and have also filed an NC at Khar Police station

It is a serious case of medical doctor bullying the patient’s family out of his ego and high handedness and also medical negligence and misconduct at the cost of patient’s life and well being

Need support from Media, Maharashtra Health Ministry, Maharashtra Chief Minister’s office, Health activists and support organisations, social media influencers, Mumbai Police and others to highlight this issue and help take necessary disciplinary action against the doctors.
